SEO Case Study For Newly Published Web Page: Long Island SEO

Several days ago I added a page to my website and started a live case study of how long it will take to improve the ranking in Google. I've written several blog posts about what I have done to the site so far, in terms of SEO.

When the page initially appeared, after it first indexed in Google, it was on page 5. It was no. 49 for the search term "Long Island SEO", so I set out to make improvements and see how it moves up in the ranks.

One of the first things I did was to set a keyphrase, title and description in my Yoast SEO Plugin.  After this Yoast was showing a "green" for my SEO, which means a good score.

After writing a title and description with my keywords strategically placed, I went into to media library. I did this by going into my Wordpress admin panel and clicking on the left hand column where it says media library. I chose the pictures that are on the page and edited them, adding "alt text" to each picture. The alt text included my chosen keyword.

After doing this, I checked my optimization scores on Google Pagespeed Insignts and gtmetrix. The scores were terrible, so my tecnical developer worked on improving them using several plugins, as well as removing autoptimize plugin which was bringing down my Google score.

The picture below is my homepage score after the optimization.

Along with the optimization for speed, I optiized my page structure.

Page Structure, for all intents and purposes, is making sure your keywords and outbound links are properly placed on the page. I was careful to use key phrases in a natural way, so as not to get penalized by Google for keyword stuffing. You know, when pewople confuse their article with a Thanksgiving Turkey- and overstuff it full of keywords.

After Working The On-Page SEO...

I started adding backlinks in several posts I had previously published, as well as writing a few new ones with links back to Long Island SEO.  This should help my ranking improve drastically, once the links register with Google.

I posted the page and the articles linking back to the new web page on my Linedin Profile in the hopes of getting some traction in the form of website visitors. We'll see.

Initially when the site first indexed, it was no. 49. Two days later  (8/1/20) it is no. 39, which means page 4. Not so hot, but I'm hoping it will change after Google recognizes my new backlinks to the page.

Stay tuned for more updates. If I can't make it to page 1 of google with this webpage, I may just go to work for the Post Office!
